Salazar Racing #330

Proven car, qualified outside front row in Hyperfest '07 & finished on the podium. (Vic Hall has driven it faster than I have;) Selling because I have too many cars and not enough time. I have not raced it this year unfortunately. Located in MD near Washington DC.

Specs

  • '90 325i 2-door coupe
  • Car built in early-06 from single owner donor (he really did drive like a grandma!)
  • I received my NASA license & logbook in Apr-06. Have raced 3-4 weekends/yr in 06/07. Have not raced in '08.
  • It is the 4th of 4 SE30s that Salazar Racing has built (lots of knowledge from the first three).

Safety (everything was purchased new in early/mid 06)

  • Sparco Evo (FIA: Aug 05 - good until end of 2010?)
  • Schroth Hybrid II HANS (FIA: good until end of 2011)
  • Teamtech mesh right side net (new 2007)
  • M&R mesh left side net (stamped Mar 06)
  • SPA Firefighter AFFF Fire System - 4L
  • cable-pull kill switch (located in cabin - switch is protected under hood)

Modifications

  • no power steering
  • no mechanical fan
  • flat front bumper
  • modified factory F strut mounts (as much negative camber as can be run w/o the springs touching the inner fenders)
  • delrin/carbon offset F lollipop bushing
  • ground control R strut mounts
  • R camber adj bushings
  • aluminum R subframe bushings
  • F&R swaybars
  • quick release steering wheel w/ momo MOD08 (ball unit that never develops slop like splined units)

cage details

  • sunroof tray removed/welded for weight and clearance
  • Main hoop slightly tilted back for loads of legroom
  • 1.75x0.95 (stiffer & lighter than 1.5")
  • all tubes TIG welded 360deg (the ones at the top of the hoop are the tricky ones!)
  • Dash bar goes behind/though dash not under - to protect you kneecaps!
  • Bowed out 'X' driver side impact protection - requires removal of door *glass (have little L tab to install/remove glass easily for trailering)
  • Single-plane bar for passenger side prot (can easily add other 1/2 of X if desired)
  • Seat is currently mounted very inboard (near tunnel) and VERY low for CG.
  • Lots of tricks for tall drivers.
  • Some of it is left in zinc weld-thru primer to facilitate adding more tubes if desired. The rest is painted black.
  • impact foam is the firm 'good stuff' from OG racing. No soft pipe insulation type junk used.
Wheels: Black Team Dynamics pro Race 1.2s (not the early 1.0s whos spokes stick out and are vulnerable)

Maint

  • Mobil 1 & redline everywhere
  • New water pump and timing belt ~5 race weekends ago.
  • Rebuilt LSD in 07 (can check exact date, but should only have 2-3 weekends on it)
  • New driveshaft center bushing
  • New radiator

Things to do (I'll be brutally honest)

  • The car is dirty as heck! Needs a wash;)
  • 7&8th points in footwells are not installed. They're ALMOST not necessary as the front legs are designed to be so far forward. I could add a driver tube if desired though.
  • Rollbar could use paint over the weld-thru primer if you're not adding any more tubes
  • The NEW water pump started to leak a little @ the bushing. I have a new spare to install.
  • Could possibly use an electric fan if you like sitting on the grid running. Des not overheat at all on track, but will if you sit.
  • Small dent in F driver door and F driver quarter panel (behind wheel) from contact @ Hyperfest last year. (Sorry Barry!)
  • the pass lip of the rear bumper needs to be popped back in its channel (can see it in one of the pics). Kappy bumped me in the rear in the carousel in '06. It just takes the two bolts, slide back, and slide forward again.
  • One of the wheels has a big cosmetic scratch. I caught the back edge of a gator @ VIR in '07. (Thats why the pic has a different wheel on the front right - Haven't bothered to swap the other one back on.)
  • front bumper has a small crack. (have spare material or just tape it up.)

Spares

  • new fuel pump
  • new hawk brake pads (at least one front and rear set)
  • new rotors F&R
  • driver & passenger door (not painted)
  • new tie rod (one)
  • new water pump
  • complete rear subframe w/ CVs and trailing arms
  • bumper material
  • whatever else I can dig up in the trailer;)
The car is currently running ~20# of ballast (tank needs to be around 1/2 at end of race). Im ~190# + whatever gear weighs. ALL of the trunk (50+#) and most of the passenger side undercoating is still in the car. Its good weight to keep as its low and near the pass/rear corner (something we knew since we stripped too much out of the prior cars.)

Options

  • G2x datalogger - will keep
  • The seat & harness I would gladly keep if negotiating price down, but currently included (hey, not everyone fits in an Evo!)

Needs to be 2008 SpecE30 legal

  • Toyo R888s (Toyo RA1s are included)
  • '08 spec exhaust (currently running 2 tube glasspacks)

$12k+- depending on spares and datalogging. Can possibly rent for summit / VIR races. Email for more info. "sdubovsky AT salazar-racing DOT com"
